Cy Twombly's Summer Madness constitutes a relatively large blank breathing space and what looks like an explosion of concentrated primary colours, which spread in all directions, which have a very painterly effect.

The focus of the painting is the origin of this release of colour pressure, where it mixes into an earthy brown. The entire composition could easily pass for a flower composition, but under the context of the title, it may shape into something else. The idea that the piece represents an actual emotional or psychological explosion may suggest how volatile can be our perception of reality, like in the same way a mentally ill person may see reality whilst it is a delusion to others, or whether it is vice versa, whether they just see an 'alternate' reality. In fact, the painting includes a series of random pieces of information: numbers, names, which are likely to hold a drastically different meaning to 'pretty flowers'. As a result, this painting is making me immensely aware of the power of perspective, and how personal experience can drastically change the meaning of events, art, poetry and the progression of personal experience itself, and how no one is ever right.

One word description

occhiolism

n. the awareness of the smallness of your perspective, by which you couldn't possibly draw any meaningful conclusions at all, about the world or the past or the complexities of culture, because although your life is an epic and unrepeatable anecdote, it still only has a sample size of one, and may end up being the control for a much wilder experiment happening in the next room.

Poem description

Change of perspective

Sandra Ha

This was the year I messed up the most
I can't say
I've done amazing things for myself
Given the opportunity
To take a chance
To look into myself and change for the better
I reflect
So proud, very proud, too proud
All my friends, family, teachers must be
Disappointed
I should not be
Considered as a person of great value
I know I am
Nothing more
Than an insecure and selfish teen
I will grow up as an adult rather
Ashamed and knowing
I can turn this all upside down
I will look into the mirror again
To see the reflection for this new year.
